Life Story for Wan Yee Dong

Mrs. Wan Yee Dong (nee Fung) passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side in St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver on April 13, 2016 at the age of 98 years. She will now be re-united with her pre-deceased husband, Donald (Dee), at the Queen's Park Cemetery in Calgary.

She leaves to mourn her loving daughter Diane (Huntley), 2 grandchildren Kevin (Leah) and Janet (Ishai), 3 great grandsons (Nicholas, Nathan, Arieh) and her niece Shirley (Chuck) in Sarnia, Ontario, and relatives and friends in Vancouver, Canada, Hong Kong, China, and Bahamas.

Born in China, Wan Yee came to Canada to marry Dee in 1950 and lived in Hanna Alberta for 57 years. She was well known for her large vegetable garden and home-made Chinese noodles and dim sum. She could be seen walking to and from the grocery stores in the middle of Alberta winter, living independently in her own house until the age of 90.

For that, she earned her permanent holiday living in beautiful British Columbia with Diane's family since 2007. Her easy going cheerfulness and wanting to do everything herself made her an easy addition to the Port Moody clan. She had the time of her life being surrounded with great grandsons and the family meals and going out to eat. She loved Chinese poetry and was still writing her own Seasons Greetings cards past 95 years old.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St Paul's Hospital, especially the Palliative ward, for making the last part of her journey comfortable and peaceful. They are awesome. The family also would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the SUCCESS Simon KY Lee Seniors Care Home and the Burquitlam Lions Care Centre for taking great care of our mom in this past year.

Our little guys are going to miss their mimi mama, especially her red envelopes. Her memory will live on in all of our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Simon KY Lee Care Home.
