Obituary for Otto Per Standal

Standal, Otto
March 10, 1940 - Feb. 25, 2013

Otto passed away peacefully after a nine year courageous and honourable battle with cancer.
Otto was born in Ulsteinvik, Norway and moved to Canada with his wife and children in 1963. Otto was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 97 where as an Ironworker he helped build many buildings, bridges, mines, and pulp mills throughout BC. Later in his career Otto became a member of the Steel Workers Union and worked as a welder in shipbuilding with Ulstein Marine and Rolls Royce. He had a passion for hard work and after retiring from work due to his illness showed just as much passion for long walks on the beaches and trails of White Rock right up to the end of his battle. His wife, Liv Grete (nee Eilertsen), lost her best friend and husband of 53 years the day he died. During his illness Liv patiently and devotedly took such good care of Otto. Thanks mom! Their marriage was a source of strength and inspiration for their children and grandchildren. Also left behind here in Canada are Otto's daughter Linda and son in-law Rob, son Tom, and grandchildren Joseph, Daniel, John and Joy and many friends and co-workers. Back in Norway he is survived by his sister Sissel and members of the Seljeseth and Eilertsen familes. He was a pillar in our lives that always put his family and friends before himself and will be sorely missed and forever held in our hearts. A very big thank you to all the doctors, nurses and volunteers who helped Otto and the family so much and especially those of the Peace Arch Hospital Hospice team who made his last days so peaceful for Otto and his family. Instead of flowers, those wishing to can send a donation to Peace Arch Hospital:- Hospice Unit in Otto's name. (http://www.pahfoundation.ca/)

We love you Bubba and in the words spoken to you – “Be Free Dad !!! ”
