Zdenek (Dennis) Siska

October 4, 1963 — February 6, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dennis Siska. On the evening of February 6th 2025, Dennis passed away peacefully after a short and unexpected illness while surrounded by family at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Dennis was born on October 4th, 1963, in Příbram, Czech Republic. In 1978, at age 14, Dennis and his family fled the country to escape communist rule. They spent several months in Italian refugee camps where Dennis spent his time learning English and preparing for the new life ahead. Later that year, Dennis and his family were accepted into Canada, initially settling in Regina before moving to Ontario.

In Ontario, Dennis earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Commerce, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Carleton University. He then worked with Transport Canada for several years before his love of mountains, adventure, and the great outdoors led him to British Columbia.

In British Columbia, he worked for Indian Affairs, now known as CIRNAC, within the federal government, where he was a valued team member and made lasting contributions over the course of his 25+ years of service.

Upon retiring in 2021, Dennis turned his attention to the natural beauty of British Columbia. He had a deep love for all animals, especially birds. He was often seen driving around in his beloved Suzuki Tracker, tending to the environment he cherished so much. On most weekends, Dennis could be found hiking, off-roading, or hunting for abandoned cabins deep in the backcountry. He travelled extensively worldwide and had the opportunity to hike the Andes in the final year of his life, adding to a long list of hiking adventures across the globe.

Dennis’ personal life was defined by his deep love for his daughter, Christina. A single father, he dedicated himself fully to raising her with love, teaching her the values of hard work, and encouraging her to follow her dreams. Dennis always said his greatest wish was for her to become a doctor, and today, she is studying medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Christina, as well as his family, friends, and all who were touched by his generosity and kindness. Dennis enjoyed helping others and making the world a better place. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, remembered for his warmth, adventurous spirit, love for life, and deep devotion to his family.
