Our mom, Sandy, had a smile that could light up a room. She had a good sense of humour and laughed easily. She showed her love by listening, encouraging, and being there for the people around her. She was a caregiver at heart, and even during her own difficult times in the last several years, she was there to show up for someone else.
Sandy spent her career in the medical field as a Medical Office Assistant and always had interesting stories to share from her work. She loved dancing and she and her husband, Bert began dancing together in the mornings before her commute - a simple ritual that eased the aches of long drives and added joy to the start of the day. She was also proud to have volunteered in palliative care at Crossroads Hospice, offering comfort and compassion where she could.
She found peace in caring for her animals; her beloved budgies and later taking in cats, Crackers and then Lewey. Being with them grounded her and brought her quiet contentment.
Mom spent her last weeks at Melville Hospice Home in White Rock, surrounded by the love of family and friends. She found comfort in the garden outside her window and the hummingbird that often visited. Her faith was strong; she was at peace and reminded us that everything would be okay.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Harold and May and stepfather Lou, her brother, Jim; and her husband, Bert. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Deanne and Christine (Russell); her grandchildren, Neil, Tyler, Raven, Madison, Kenan (Olivia), Hannah, and new great-grandbaby Noah; her sisters, Colleen and Jan; her brother, Dave; and several nieces and nephews.
Her wish for a “fun & light” Celebration of Life will be held close to her birthday in March 2026 with any donations going to the SPCA.
Mom’s spirit lives on in the love and memories she leaves behind, and the sound of birds will always bring her to mind. Until we meet again.
