It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Henderson Felty on February 21, 2022, and it is with love and gratitude that we remember him and a life well lived. Loving husband of 71 years to Geraldine (Gerry), devoted father to Robert, Richard (Vicki), Clifton (Anna) and William (Andrea), proud Grandpa to Elana (Steve), Olivia, Matthew, Nicholas and Luke and Great Grandpa to Nicholas. He also leaves behind his brother Norman (Laura), sister-in-law Ruby and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Margaret and Earl Felty and brother Gordon. Ron was born on August 3, 1926, in Nelson, BC where he lived until his teens. His family moved to the lower mainland where Ron finished high
school and later went to work at Royal City Canning and eventually at Royal City Taxi in New Westminster. It was while driving taxi that he met the love of his life, Geraldine (nee Brown) when she and her girlfriends stepped into Ron’s cab. Ron would tell the story that he was immediately smitten and made sure to drop Gerry off last. Ron and Gerry were married on August 22, 1950 and moved into the home that he built for them in Burnaby. It was in this home that they raised their family enjoying many years of holiday celebrations, backyard BBQs with family and friends, annual vacations in Osoyoos, frequent trips to Hawaii and the antics of four energetic boys.
With a growing family to support, Ron began working in sales at Valley Lumber, later Beaver Lumber eventually becoming Operations Manager for Western Canada. In 1976, having had his fill of corporate life, he struck out on his own and formed Ron Felty Construction, proudly working side by side with his son Richard until his retirement at the age of 84.
Ron was an avid and skilled golfer and played every chance he could, with many family holidays centered around the game he enjoyed so much. He won numerous trophies over the years, had 9 documented holes-in-one and at the age of 72, shot a score of 71. Spending time with his sons on the golf course (and beating them) brought him great joy.
Dad’s needs were simple, and he never complained. His family around him, a cold beer on the 19th hole and a good meal were all he needed.
Special thanks to the caring staff at New Visa Care Home where Dad charmed all the nurses.
No service by request. Private family gathering to follow.
Rest well Dad, we love you.
