Peter Lyon Appleby

June 13, 1938 — September 15, 2025

Vancouver

Peter died peacefully, with his wife at his bedside, on his own terms, at Lion’s Gate Hospital, at the age of 87.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathy, his stepson Mark, his sister-in-law Annamaria, and his faithful friend Charlie, the family cat.

Peter was born at St. Paul’s Hospital, where, at the time of his birth, his father was the Chief of Surgery, and his mother was a St. Paul’s Hospital Nursing Graduate. Peter also had an older sister, Wendy, who passed away several years ago.

Peter attended Prince of Wales High School and graduated from UBC before going overseas to work in the Lumber Industry. He returned to Vancouver to work as a financial services professional.

Peter was well educated, he loved to read, and he was interested in all forms of sports and politics. He was an active member of the Capilano Golf and Country Club for 45 years, winning many tournaments he entered and formed lifelong bonds with many of the members. Particularly all the guys known as the “Sweet Swingers”. He managed to get several ‘holes-in-one’ during his lifetime. He was also an excellent skier and Marathon runner in his younger years.

Peter was a gentle and very friendly guy who enjoyed fine meals, a bottle of red wine shared among friends. At gatherings he often spoke of his childhood experiences on the family “Running Horse” ranch in Kamloops, BC, where his father bred racehorses. Recently, he could be found working out every day and socializing with newly met friends at Planet Fitness in North Vancouver.

At Peter’s request, there will be no service. Donations can be made in his name to the SPCA.
