Matthew Grant Renehan

May 23, 1980 - July 26, 2025

I stand here today with a broken heart to say goodbye and announce the passing of the love of my life, my soulmate - beloved husband, daddy, son, son-in-law, brother and uncle.

Together we created beautiful memories that will last forever. We laughed every day, traveled and shared the most wonderful moments as a family. Your kindness, incredible forgiveness, strength and humility touched not just our little family, but all who knew you, Matt. Your beautiful, contagious smile and goofy sense of humour would light up any room you were in and make the worst day seem a bit brighter.

Although you may be gone from this world so unexpectedly, your legacy lives on through the people you touched. We carry and cherish your memory for all eternity. You will be forever in our hearts and missed deeply.

Matt was born on May 23, 1980 to parents Katherine and Robert Renehan and grew up in the small community of Port Coquitlam, BC, where he spent all of his childhood and teenage years with a tight knit circle of friends, biking, snowboarding, exploring and earning himself the nickname Big Bird. After high school graduation Matt worked in the construction industry and shortly after found his passion for glazing, receiving his Red Seal certification. He loved math and excelled in what he did for the past 15 years and was well respected in the trade community, working at heights that most of us would be fearful of.

Always there to lend a helping hand, even to strangers in need, and listening to everyone that needed to talk, Matt became a solid rock for many. He was passionate about fishing and nature, movies and could cite entire dialogues even though he had not seen the movie in a while. He loved his music and would always make sure that you listened to one more song from his daily discovery list on Spotify. Music gave his soul peace and a space to escape. When he wasn’t spending time with loved ones, enjoying a car ride, adventuring with friends, or taking his beloved dog Mabel for an evening walk, Matt would magically create delicious dishes in the kitchen. He beamed for joy when cooking and even grew his own produce to use, as he was very particular with things. You are now safely with the angels in heaven my love. Taken from us too soon. We are blessed to have had the time we spent with you.

“Those we love don’t go away.
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
Still loved. Still missed.
And always dear”

Love you, Matt. To the moon and back. Forever and for always. xoxo

A celebration of light for our beloved Matt will be held at a later date.

Instead of flowers, please plant a tree of life in his memory; he loved Arbutus trees.

May your beautiful soul rest in peace my love.
