Maria Menzer

With heavy hearts and quiet sadness, we share the passing of our beloved mother, Maria Menzer. Mom left us peacefully on January 10, held close by the love and presence of her children.

Mom’s life was a testament to determination and heart. Her adventurous spirit led her from Germany to Canada, where she built a life centered on family and service. In her mid-40s, she showed her characteristic courage by returning to school. She spent her career providing dignity and kindness to seniors in home support and long-term care—a role that perfectly reflected her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Home was always at the heart of Mom’s world. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy, filled with the aromas of homemade cakes and traditional German dishes like Rouladen. No one ever left her table hungry, and family meals were treasured gatherings.

Her nurturing spirit was evident in everything she touched. A fabulous gardener, she surrounded herself with beauty, flowers, and fresh produce. She had a special fondness for animals and children, and an uncanny talent for making holidays feel magical and memorable.

Mom embraced life with vibrant energy and enthusiasm. She loved the outdoors—skiing, swimming, walking the river and forest paths, and even river rafting. Her wanderlust took her on countless journeys, from visits back to Germany to sun-filled days in Hawaii and Mexico, and many cherished cruises and road trips with family and friends.

In her later years, as dementia became part of her story, Mom’s spirit remained unmistakable. She lived at the Belvedere Care Centre where she became a beloved presence, known for her radiant smile and remarkable determination, and often seen on her long walks through the halls. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Belvedere staff for their compassion, respect, and loving care.

Mom cared deeply, loved fiercely and taught us all the true meaning of a life well-lived.

Reunited with her parents, Johann and Maria, and her twin brothers, Josef and Georg, she is survived by her children, Manfred (Val), Artur (Sharon), and Sandra; her grandchildren, Taylor and Hannah; great granddaughter, Aurora; and Ludwig Menzer, the father of her children. She also leaves behind many friends whose lives were enriched by her friendship.

Honouring her wishes no formal service will be held. In keeping with Mom’s lifelong devotion to others, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice. She would be honoured to know that her legacy of helping continues.
