Larry Vernon Peters passed away surrounded by family at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody on Dec. 11, 2025, at the age of 73.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Helen, his siblings Barry, Sally and Willie, and his wife Donna (Chrobak).
He leaves behind his loving wife of the past 25 years, Darlene, his children Christian (Sarah) and Jessica, and his stepchildren Treena and Trent. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, who he loved dearly: Taran, Connor, Lucas, Dylan, Cohen, Keaton, Kyah and Jake.
Larry was born in Prince George on June 15,1952 and grew up on The Island Cache and later Buckhorn Road, where he developed many cherished, lifelong friendships. His childhood – along with 25 years of taxi driving — would become fodder for many entertaining stories.
In his later life, Larry obtained an arts degree from the University of Northern B.C. and a Bachelor of Education from Simon Fraser University. With that education, he went on to teach at Leaf Rapids Education Centre, McClosky Elementary and North Delta Secondary. Larry was proud of his work with children experiencing multiple barriers to learning and had a knack for connecting with and bringing out the best in his students.
He and Darlene have shared 25 wonderful years. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with camping and adventure, including their move to Leaf Rapids, Manitoba for his first full-time teaching position. They loved spending time with their children and grandchildren, and their dogs, Xena and Tuffy.
Larry loved the arts and had been a talented amateur photographer and guitar player in his younger years. When he retired from teaching, he was able to devote time to his artistic passions, including painting and playing guitar. He was an avid history buff, researching his own family history. He was also a published research author on the topic of Barkerville.
Larry bravely fought against the effects of Parkinson’s disease and lymphoma for the last 10 years. In lieu of flowers, Darlien would appreciate if you would consider donating to Parkinson’s Canada, or B.C. Cancer Foundation for lymphoma research.
A private family gathering will be held in the Lower Mainland in January. A celebration of life will be held in Prince George in the spring. Dates to be announced.
