KAREN LYNNE RUSSELL (ENGLISH)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Russell (née English) after a long battle with Myotonic Dystrophy on September 30th, 2025; just two weeks shy of her 60th birthday.

She will be greatly missed by her son Thomas, sisters, Valerie and Bev (Joel) and best friend, Anita (Larry), as well as many others. She was predeceased by her parents Al and Florence English.

Karen was born in Winnipeg but grew up in Richmond, BC. As a young woman, she enjoyed being in Air Cadets for several years. After graduating from Richmond Secondary, she worked as a teller for the RBC. She loved working at the branch downtown, where she delighted in the beautiful mountain and sea views. She liked to travel. She especially treasured a trip to England with Anita in the 1980’s. She then met her future husband, Cam, and moved with him to Thompson, MB. After ten years there, they moved to Spruce Grove, AB, where they welcomed their son, Thomas. Karen and Thomas moved back to Vancouver to be close to family in 2012.

Karen was a very up-beat, easy-going person. She had a good sense of humour and accepted what life threw at her. She loved music (especially Meatloaf), TV, movies and food! She was interested in current events and was great at playing trivia. She was a die-hard Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and loved attending their games, dressed in her green Roughriders outfit, complete with pom-poms! She loved animals, especially cats. Her previous cats were Spot and Pixel; then Eddie, who still lives with Thomas.

The family would like to thank the staff at Belvedere Care Home. Karen enjoyed making friends and taking part in the activities there. A private celebration of life will take place in November. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada in honour of Karen.
