Joseph Nantais

May 27, 1946 — May 1, 2024

Ray passed away on 1 May 2024. He did not make it to his 78th birthday which would have been on 27 May. He was born in Windsor in 1946.

With his Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, granted in 1971, he worked at U of T, Worthington Pump and Compressor, and finally at Ontario Hydro/Ontario Power Generation. He worked there for 30+ years designing and testing tools for use in nuclear reactors. He was most proud of his accomplishments at OH/OPG and the many friends he made.

He retired in 2005 from OPG and, with Helen, moved to the USA where they lived in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Atlanta before returning to Canada where they settled in Port Moody, BC. In each city, he sought out the nearest gym and made friends with the neighbours. His sense of humour and sense of adventure served him well. Few knew that he had a First Jump Certificate from the Parachute School of Toronto Limited. Not bad for a guy that was afraid of heights!

He enjoyed many sports and played hockey for teams in the Toronto area.

He was a world traveler, having visited over 85 countries and all seven continents. His most recent trip was to the Cook Islands in November 2023.

Ray is survived by his wife Helen of 19 years, his brother Chris and his wife Sherry, his sister Darlene and her husband Eriks, his brother Joel, his sister Denise and her husband John, and his sister Diana and her husband Kent. He was predeceased by his brother Ken and sister Donna Marie.

Ray had one son, David, from a previous marriage.

There will be a Celebration of Life later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Society.
