It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Arthur Hooge.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Elsie Hooge (Wiebe); four sons, Rodney (Susan), Rick (Michele),
Darcy (Lori), and Darrell (Shirly); and six grandchildren: Bryan, Brett, Kimberly, Christina, Haylie, and
Reina.
John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He moved to British Columbia as a child and grew up in the
Fraser Valley. John married his beloved Elsie in 1953, and they remained married for 69.5 years until his
passing. During that time, he worked at the Army Camp in Vedder Crossing as a civil servant. They raised
their four sons in Sardis, B.C., and in 1968, moved the family to Coquitlam. While living in Coquitlam, he
worked at BC Tel for approximately 24 years until his retirement.
As a young man, John developed a lifelong love for photography. He enjoyed taking his family on
vacations, including camping trips. John cherished his roles as a husband, father, father-in-law, uncle,
and grandfather. In retirement, John and Elsie were able to continue camping in Southern British
Columbia and Washington State, as well as traveling around North America on various trips. John also
enjoyed geocaching, riding his bike, making wine, gardening, and spending time with his family.
John passed away peacefully in his sleep in Coquitlam, B.C.
At John’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
Sleep well, Dad. You will be missed.
Til we are together again.
