Fraser, James Neil
December 20, 1948 - May 16, 2024
(aka Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents, Al and Ellie Fraser of West Vancouver. He is survived by his two daughters Melanie Anne (Chad), Sarah Lynn (Shane) and his sister Barbara. His cousins; Amy, Nancy, Ted, John and uncles Peter and Herb. Jim was a very proud grandfather of five grandchildren; Abbigail, Grace, Elizabeth, Paxton and Sterling.
Jim will always be remembered as the “life of the party”. He had a passion for showbiz and his colleagues have said he was a “master of the mic.” He always had a positive outlook on life and spread joy and laugher to all who knew him. Jim entered the limelight as a young man, acting and singing in musicals as well as touring and performing as the lead singer of the popular “Boston Tea Party” band. He enjoyed every minute of it!
He knew early on in life that he wanted to be a broadcaster. He began his career at CHUB radio on Vancouver Island, quickly moving up the ranks to CKWX 1130 in Vancouver. Jim went on to host at JR FM, KISS FM, and ended his career on the Sunshine Coast with COAST FM. Additionally, he hosted the Marine Patrol for multiple summers. Many happy memories were made on the waters around Vancouver. Jim delighted in boating, listening and singing along to all types of music, good company and of coarse his “big boy beverages”.
Jim passed peacefully with his daughters Melanie and Sarah by his side. In typical fashion his “final sign off the air” was perfectly orchestrated with Roy Orbison singing one of his favourite songs “You got it”. Farewell Jim, we are all better off for having had you in our lives.
