It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ivo Alfred Cargnelli, who passed away peacefully on the morning of October 8, 2026, in Burnaby, British Columbia, at the age of 89.
Ivo was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Little); his parents, Gaetano and Maria Cargnelli (Pasqualini), his brother Celestino, his wife, Jean (Attaway). Ivo is survived by his 3 sons Gregory (Ange), Brian (Karen), Richard (Laurie) as well as his 4 cherished grandchildren, Samual, Ivo, Teresa & Gillian. He also leaves behind extended family and many, many friends.
Born in Trail, BC, to immigrant parents, Ivo was proud of his Italian heritage and of being Canadian. He carried throughout his life the values of la famiglia, hard work, perseverance, and commitment. Ivo married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn, in 1960. From then on, his ambition was to build a family and become a father. Family remained at the centre of his life.
A lifelong curiosity about science and technology led Ivo from building childhood rocket prototypes to becoming a Radiological Technician. Later, working as a pharmaceutical sales rep throughout the Lower Mainland, he developed the ambition to own his own business. He went on to build WCR, selling Fuji X-ray film to hospitals, clinics, and chiropractors throughout Western Canada. His business brought independence and opportunity, along with responsibility and pressure. Through it all, Ivo remained determined to provide for his family while making time for them.
He camperized an Econoline van, and for four years the family travelled throughout British Columbia during summer holidays, combining business calls with camping, exploration, and time together. As the children grew, Ivo and Marilyn longed for a recreational property of their own. They found it at Sakinaw Lake on the Sunshine Coast. This was their paradise which came to be known as Casa Contenta and for the following 50 years, it was their place for family, friendship, and countless memories.
Ivo was a man of strong opinions and convictions. A legendary capitalist and conservative, he was rarely short of something to say about politics around the breakfast table. Yet beneath those convictions was a remarkably generous and loyal man. The neighbours around 36th and Dunbar became an extension of the family. The house was open to everyone, friends, neighbours, and family were always welcome - even the people with different political beliefs.
Ivo gave generously to his community, particularly through Dunbar youth baseball and soccer, serving as a baseball equipment manager, soccer coach, and referee manager.
He faced prostate cancer and other health challenges throughout his life but refused to let them define him. His characteristic response to adversity was directly simple: “Everything is good. All good.” He did not want anyone to make a bother about him.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to the caregivers, healthcare professionals, neighbours, and friends who supported Ivo during his final years.
Not wanting a lot of fuss, a small Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
Ivo will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a family, a community, and a lifetime of stories. He worked hard, loved his family, welcomed others, touched many lives and met life's challenges with determination and resilience.
“Everything is good. Yah, Yah, All good.”
From all who had the pleasure of knowing you; Ti amo.
