Helen Riess

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Schapansky Wiebe (Reckling, Quo Vadis, Riess) on July 20, 2026 at the age of 98 years, at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody, B.C., from complications of a stroke.

Mom was born on November 2, 1927 in Friedensdorf (Molotschna Colony), Ukraine, U.S.S.R. and lived in Germany as a teenager prior to emigrating to Vancouver, Canada in 1952. In 1967 she made her final home in Port Coquitlam, B.C. for 59 years.

Her family was her greatest joy. She loved baking with her children and grandchildren. Mom also loved music and dance, and often attended theatre Ballet productions and Cirque du Soleil.

She leaves 4 children (Peter, Marlene, Frank and Gloria), son-in-law Stephen, 6 grandchildren (Ursula, Cora, Trevor, Aaron, Sherry and Janice {Davin}), 7 great grandchildren (Ayrton, Oliver, Alexandra, Christian, Anna), 2 great great grandchildren (Stephanie and Lance), and great great great children.

She devoted her time to family and was greatly admired and loved.
