Grant Thompson, a gifted mechanic, a wild but steady soul, and a man whose wit could cut through even the darkest moments, passed away on January 8, 2026 surrounded by love.
He was a fighter in every sense of the word. Through every challenge, every setback, and every hard day, he held onto his sense of humor.
He is predeceased by his parents Stephen (Steve) and Eva Thompson. He is survived by his two children, Steve & Brandi, his granddaughter Emma, his favorite non-child Nikkole, his six siblings, Rod (Isabelle), Kerry (Frank), CB (Mildred), Allister (Shelley), Darci and Shannon, plus many beloved nieces & nephews, who will forever carry his strength, his weirdness, and his love in their hearts. He is also survived by his devoted dog Stanley.
Even when life tested Grant, he found a way to crack a joke, lighten the mood, or make someone smile. His resilience was quiet but powerful.
As a single father, he carried a responsibility that he met with unwavering devotion. He gave his children not just love, but strength, stability, and a model of what it means to show up-every day, no matter what. He coached his daughter's baseball team, never missed a cheerleading competition or a hockey practice, and managed to make Christmas feel special, even without a mom in the picture.
He balanced hard work with fun, discipline with tenderness, and always made sure his kids knew they were his greatest pride.
His love language (he'd hate that reference) was fixing your car. His legacy lives on… in every car he touched, every laugh he inspired, and every moment he showed what it means to be a good human.
His family would like to thank his roommates (Brad, Jerry, and Tyrel) who were truly more like family, and Grant's community of friends that supported him in his battle.
No flowers or donations are being requested at this time. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Grant's life is being planned for January 24, 2026 in Surrey, British Columbia. Please contact Brandi at (604) 309-3088 for details.
He was truly one of a kind, and will be missed by all who loved him, but especially his children Steve and Brandi. His children will continue to live their lives in the way that he inspired them to - and will keep his spirit alive in all they do.
