Geertruida (Trudy) Budd (née van Diemen) August 20, 1936 – December 9, 2025
Geertruida “Trudy” Budd passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the age of 89 at Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster with her daughter by her side. She leaves behind her four children: Judy (Kevin), Arnie (Linda), Amii (Mark), and Audrey (Brian). Eleven grandchildren: Alisa, Jared, Tasha, Lana, Theo, Erika, Cole, Quinn, Deavon, Mason, Amy, and eight great-grandchildren.
Trudy was born on August 20, 1936, in Mijdrecht, Holland, the third oldest of twelve children in a large and close-knit family. In search of new opportunities, her family immigrated to Canada, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 15, 1953 aboard the Groote Beer — a journey that marked the beginning of her Canadian story.
In 1955, Trudy moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she met the love of her life, Ernie Budd. They married in 1956 and shared 60 wonderful years together before Ernie’s passing in 2016. Their marriage was filled with laughter and a deep devotion to family. After many years in Edmonton, Trudy and Ernie moved their family to Kamloops, British Columbia, in 1977 drawn by the warmer weather and the chance to be closer to family living in the Okanagan.
A practicing Catholic for much of her life, Trudy found strength and comfort in her faith. She loved hosting friends and family, playing cards, singing, and dancing. She was actively involved with the Kamloops Choristers, enjoyed her bowling league, and found great pleasure in gardening and spending time with her family. She also cherished travel and meaningful experiences, including a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with her sister Corrie, a trip back to Holland with many of her siblings, and an unforgettable Alaskan cruise.
She spent her later years living at Riverbend in Kamloops, and eventually in long-term care in New Westminster, where she could be near her daughters. Alzheimer’s disease slowly took her from those she loved, but her gentle spirit remained. A devoted wife, Mother, and Grand Mother, quietly strong, forever loved.
A celebration of life and graveside service will be held in the spring of 2026 in Kamloops, British Columbia. Details will be shared with family and friends closer to that time.
