We were sad to say goodbye to Fred just days before his 84th birthday succumbing to a brief battle with cancer. With him all the way were his loving wife of 60 years, Diane, and his wonderful sons and daughters-in-law…Cameron & Michelle and Brennan & Shannon, and his beloved grandkids Cole (with Natalie), Zoe and Sam who brought him such joy.
Fred was born in Lumby, BC but was a West End boy at heart playing in Stanley Park and graduating from King George with the infamous class of ’59. As a father, Fred was always on the sidelines cheering on his boys at baseball, soccer & track meets as well as enjoying their band concerts and all their friends. He umpired baseball games and was President of the Lynn Valley Little League in the 90’s. He also enjoyed racetrack experiences with the boys and was part owner of 3 horses.
Fred was predeceased by his older sister, Zonia Hodge, and his older brother, Syl Sekora (and his Greek ‘brothers’ Bill and Louis Anagnostopoulos). Still remembering Fred are his brothers-in-law, Ernie Hodge and Clint Brown and sisters-in-law, Janet Sekora and Sylvia Brown as well as many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, good friends and neighbours.
Fred loved his home, watching the birds from his favourite spot in his beautiful back yard for happy hour. He was a history buff, was interested in astronomy, loved yellow flowers and listening to Bruce Springsteen and B.B. King. He took early retirement from the Royal Bank and had many wonderful travels with Diane. But most of all, Fred was so proud of his family and we will love him “Always and Forever”.
The family is grateful for all the care Fred received at Lions Gate Hospital and especially at North Shore Hospice where the nursing staff made his last days peaceful for him and our family.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Jan. 2026 where we can all share a ‘Fred story’ as we all remember his sharp sense of humour…“What a guy!” he was.
If desired, donations may be made to the North Shore Hospice or Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.
