We are sad to announce that Eleanor McEachern has passed away after a long illness. She is predeceased by her mother Nellie Margaret Stock., her father William Gordon Speers and her step father Jeremiah Francis Stock. Eleanor is survived by her husband Thomas ( Tom ) McEachern and daughters Lisa ( Larry ) and Anita ( Rob ) and her grandchildren Ciara and Devin. Eleanor will be missed by her large extended family including many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was born in Cranbrook B.C. She graduated from John Oliver High School in Vancouver and began training as a registered nurse at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. During this time she met Tom and when she finished her training they were married and lived for a short while in Vancouver before moving to Coquitlam. Tom and Eleanor moved to Port Moody in 1968 and have lived there since.
Eleanor was a voracious reader. She had an amazing memory and never forgot a birthday or a phone number. She loved all sports but hockey was her favourite. Many meals were missed or burnt because the Canucks were playing. We will always have memories of Mom running back and forth from t.v. room to living room ( radio ) following two games at once. She was always a dedicated supporter of “her Canucks”. She was happy when recording shows became a “thing” and ecstatic with the advent of the PVR as it meant she didn’t have to stay up until all hours to catch the Australian or British Open on television and could watch all the Olympic events. Every. Single. One.
Mom loved all the holidays… Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving. She never failed to enjoy being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved them completely and they could do no wrong.
She was especially fond of Bon Ton cake.
We will miss her greatly.
We would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Eagle Ridge Hospital for their professionalism and kindness.
Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday September 5, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Parish, 821 Fairfax St, Coquitlam, B.C.
