Don was the last of 16 siblings. He was a part of a very big close-knit family. There was always an occasion to celebrate; births, birthdays, family reunions, weekend trips to Birch Bay, many Renos trips, and golfing trips which also included friends.
Don was born and grew up in Saskatchewan, Dana, Cudworth, Bruno area. While there he worked for the railroad, a section man laying railroad ties.
Don married Jacqueline Huber (Bruno Sask.) in 1954. Their first son Jerry was born in Sask. Don’s parents, and many siblings had moved to BC, the lower mainland, Coquitlam, Vancouver area before. When Don found himself unemployed in 1955, he took his family and moved to Coquitlam, BC. Their second son Timmie was born in BC.
Getting established here took awhile. Don worked as a surveyor laying the P.G.E Railroad from North Vancouver to Squamish. Don drove truck, hauled sawdust and oil for home heating, while working for Ted and Dan Scott and Morrow Fuels. He ended up working and retiring from Petro Canada also as a truck driver.
Don was predeceased by many in-laws, his parents, his many siblings, many nieces and nephews, and his son Jerry (1972.) Survived by his wife Jacqueline son Timmie (Barb) granddaughter Kailey (Dave) and daughter Eden, granddaughter Carly (Kyle) and son Casey. Don and Jacqueline were married 70 years in 2024.
Don enjoyed life to the fullest, time spent playing cards, horseshoes, golfing, many trips to Reno, the interior, and Saskatchewan, Friday night beers with the boys and gathering with friends and family. Don enjoyed working on and fixing cars and he tried to pass on his love of mechanics to his sons.
Don had the biggest heart, and lots of love to give, his hugs were endless. He loved and appreciated each and every one of you who were a part of his life.
So, my dearest Don, thank you for the many wonderful years we had together and your never-ending love of family. Now you can rest in peace and know that you will always remain in our hearts.
Your ever-loving wife, Jackie
