DARREN LEE CHRISTENSEN
June 11, 1966 – June 14, 2025
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my bother, uncle and great uncle.
He is survived by his only sister Diane (Cameron), of Elk Point, AB, Nephews: Tavis (Amber) of Glendon AB, David (Cherie) of Airdrie AB, Nieces: Vikki of Victoria BC and Denise of Vancouver BC, great nieces: Lyra, Mila, Mckenzie and Bailey.
Uncle Jerry Bruce of Abbotsford BC, Cousins: Michelle (Rob) McKellar Family of Abbotsford BC, Tracy (Richard) Cannon Family of Chilliwack, BC and Jerry Bruce Jr. of Abbotsford BC.
Darren was born in Surrey BC in1966 and his family later moved to Smithers BC where he grew up. His passions for hockey and golf were like his brothers. As he grew older so did his passion for the game of golf and it was matched with his brother Daryl and Father Knute. In 1987 he moved to Calgary AB and worked many jobs but found a liking for welding. In 2002 he moved to Elk Point and worked as a welder till 2011 but decided for a change and moved to Vancouver to be closer to his brother. He had a special bond with his brother and some people say “It was two peas in a pod”. Darren had a passion for helping those in need. If there was a person within 20km Darren found them and always helped one way or another. Sometimes it turned out good and sometimes not, but he never let it get him down or stopped heading the under dog. He always believed a person could change their life around. They just needed help along the way.
I have many crazy stories to tell about growing up with my brother, but it would be a long list. I asked my husband and kids to describe Darren in 5 words. They were strong, good hearted, stubborn, fun, great person, good jokes, and a great shoulder to lean on when needed. Some of the kids preferred to tell a short story about their memories with Darren.
David – When my cousin and I were kids, my uncle made everything feel like an adventure. He would take us to movies and always making sure we had the biggest tub of popcorn. Afterwards, we’d head to Montana’s for dinner, laughing and telling stories like we didn’t have a care in the world. I’ll never forget how excited we were when he surprised us with our very first Play Station 2, he always found ways to make us smile. Those simple moments meant everything, and I’ll carry them with me forever. He had a big heart, and I’m grateful for all the memories he gave us.
Denise – A brother-in-law to me (Lea Sorensen) and uncle to Denise. We’d meet up to visit and chat but always kept in touch despite our busy schedules. He was passionate about his coin collecting and watch collecting/repair. Darren always treated everyone with warmth, kindness and respect. He was willing to help anyone that needed it by way of a place to stay or help with a meal. You could always count on him for support as he had a way of making you feel like you mattered. He always brought love and laughter to our lives. Uncle Darren was a great person and I’ll always be grateful for our time we had together.
Tavis – Uncle Darren like to have fun and play jokes. Once when he was sleeping after a long day at work, I decided to get my payback for all the jokes he played on me and when trying to wake him up he just kept sleeping. So, I did the next best thing. He had just got his new tattoo on his chest and was still very sore to the touch. I decided that a good slap to the new tattoo work cover all my basis. And did it, he was awake in seconds. I told him payback is a bitch.
He was predeceased by his parents Knute/Lora, brother Daryl, and Grandfather Walter. In keeping with the families wishes cremation as already taken place and he will be returning home. A celebration of life will be a private family affair. Thank you for all the help Affordable Cremations and everyone who help me along the way.
