Anacleto Bosello

April 6, 1928 — January 17, 2025

Anacleto Santo Bosello, 96, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, in Burnaby, B.C. He is survived by his children: Tony (Kelly) and Patricia, three grandchildren: Stephanie (Brent), Leah (Nick) and Colin and two great-grandchildren: Nolan and Luca. Anacleto was predeceased by his son, Michael, and his wife, Vanda.

Anacleto was born in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, in 1928. His first job in Italy was working at a smelter. He married Vanda in 1951, and by 1957 they had two sons: Tony and Michael.

Life was not easy in Italy after WWII and in 1957 Anacleto set off alone for Canada in search of work and a better life for his family. He went across the country and decided that Vancouver was where he wanted to lay down new roots.

Initially Anacleto worked as a chokerman in logging camps up and down the west coast. He sent for Vanda and his two sons to join him in Vancouver in 1959. Two years later Patricia was born to complete their family.

Anacleto continued to do a variety of work in and out of town to support his family. He laid new tracks for the national railway, did concrete work on the Mica Dam and for Standard General and finally landed a job as a labourer in the Streets Department for the City of Vancouver where he worked as a cement finisher from 1968 to 1993. Finally, he had a job where he was close to home and could lean on a shovel every once in a while!

Anacleto had a passion for life and never passed up on a party! He loved to sing his favourite Italian songs, play bocce at the Italian Cultural Centre and hang out with friends on Commercial Drive playing cards. He loved making his own wine and squishing grapes became a family affair. Anacleto was an avid sports watcher: hockey, football, boxing and golf. He wore out the remote control many times over the years!

At age 65 Anacleto took up golf. He quickly developed his skills and proudly came home a couple of times with trophies for holes-in-one! Always social, he met friends on the greens, and they spent many happy hours golfing together and celebrating afterwards. Although his eyesight diminished in later years, he continued playing golf up until the age of 89.

Anacleto will affectionately be remembered for his “gioia di vivere” and spirit of generosity. He would help anyone in need, anytime. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He took pride in sharing his Italian roots with them and giving advice on his recipe for living a good life, which always included a glass of homemade wine. They will remember their Nonno and Bisnonno by the stories he shared, the songs he sang, his comical personality and his belted greeting, “Buon Giorno”!

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, at Saint Francis of Assisi, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver, BC. It will be followed directly by a private inurnment at Oceanview Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
