It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan “Al” Whelan on February 12, 2026, at the age of 64.
Al was a devoted father, proud grandfather, loving brother, and loyal friend whose kindness and generosity touched everyone who knew him. Born on July 28, 1961, Allan built a life defined by hard work, deep love for his family, and an unwavering belief in finding joy in each day.
For over 45 years, Al dedicated himself to his career in Construction. He took immense pride in his work, earning the respect of colleagues and crews alike through his leadership, integrity, and steady presence. He believed in doing things the right way — with care, commitment, and heart — values he carried not only on the job site but into every part of his life.
Above all else, Al was a family man. He was a loving father to his son, Leslie, and a cherished father-in-law to Tamah, Leslie’s wife. Nothing brought him more happiness than being “Papa” to his beloved granddaughters, Layla and Malia. His eyes lit up around them, and his love for them was boundless. He was a supportive brother to Natalie and Barry, and a proud uncle to Phillip, Daniel, and Cassandra.
Al had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether he was camping under the stars, quadding down a trail, or casting a fishing line into quiet waters, he felt most at peace surrounded by nature. Those moments were often shared with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
He lived by a simple but powerful motto: “Go to sleep happy, wake up happy.” It was more than a phrase — it was the way he chose to live his life. He believed in gratitude, in laughter, in appreciating the people around him, and in ending each day with a full heart.
Al will be remembered for his warm smile, his generous spirit, his steady guidance, and the way he showed up for the people he loved without hesitation. His strength, wisdom, and love leave a lasting legacy in his family and in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though he is deeply missed, his lessons, his laughter, and his love will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Rest easy, Dad. We will go to sleep happy and wake up happy — just like you taught us.
