On October 1, 2026, Nancy (Agnes) Fulton Collins (nee McGeachie) passed away in Langley, B.C. In her 99th year.
She was born on December 13, 1926 in Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland to George and Martha McGeachie, arriving in Canada in March, 1949 having been a distillery worker at Johnny Walker’s in Kilmarnock. That same year while serving petrol at the old store at Gillespie and Sooke Roads, she met Dad who informed his friends, “I’m going to marry that girl”. On December 31 of 1949 they wed in Sooke, B.C.
Nancy (you best not call her Agnes) learned a different life in Canada. From living a life in a small village in Scotland, dancing at all the parish halls at the end of the war and working at the distillery, she ended up learning to work as a cook for a bit on the fish traps out west where Dad worked. At times beating pots and pans to keep the orcas from taking out the traps. Mom spent time Fishing with Dad on weekends and helping him build their lovely home from scratch. She worked at Eatons in Victoria, Ray and Marie Blouin’s General Store and finally at Gibsons store in Sooke leaving work in 1954. She always said her best job was at home being a wife and Mom.
Mom loved her life in Sooke, making many lifelong friends like Nancy and Eric Butler. She enjoyed volunteering locally, our favourite being her turn as lunch lady at Sooke Elementary School and especially enjoyed the years with the Holy Trinity Catering Guild with Mary Waters. Those Burn’s Suppers!
Our life growing up had Mom baking all the time. Her famous batches of 20+ loaves of bread. The Best!! Pies stacked in the freezer along side various squares, Nanaimo bars and peanut butter balls that were devoured by us all. So many remember Dad and Mom’s Saturday night homemade fish and chips (those potato fritters) watching hockey. The hours Mom spent gardening and canning, taking us to the Sooke pot holes in the summer to swim and having picnic dinners riverside. The best Home cooked meals and a lot of singing Scottish songs, history lessons, stories and laughter playing cards. You were the best wife and Mom!!
Predeceased by her dear husband Kenneth in 2015, brother David in 1965, her sisters Catherine in 2018 and Ann in 2019, and young brother George in 2020. She leaves behind her sister Myra in Scotland, son John, daughter Donna, grandson Charles (Snow), great granddaughter Alexia; Granddaughter Natasha with great granddaughter Mya, grandchildren Joshua and Caitlin. Numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
We would like to thank Dr. McFee for going above and beyond caring for Mom. You have been fantastic all these years . As well Drs. Constantine and Bujak. Such wonderful experts making her life more full and comfortable. Mom loved having a visit with all of you.
As well a big thank you to Drs. Nazareli, Sood, Dhami and Flora at Langley Memorial Hospital as well as Nurses, care aides and technicians in Zone 3, 4 South Central and PATH. You showed Mom such care and compassion.
You are with the Lord now Mom and your loved ones, holding hands with Dad once more in your Ain Wee Hoose. You were such a wonderful friend and companion these past years. Thank you! Will miss all of your stories! Rest in peace lovely lady - you almost made 100!
