Obituary for Robert Frank Deno

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Deno on December 18 in Coquitlam BC, 15 days after his 90th birthday. Bob grew up in Nanaimo BC, where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Shirley.

Bob became a journeyed Machinist with CP Rail, and then joined the PGE (later re-named to BC Rail) where he continued his career in Chetwynd, Lillooet and Squamish BC. He became a Diesel Inspector in 1970 and worked with some of the first computerized remote-control rail cars in the industry. Bob retired at 60 but continued his fascination with trains by building spectacular model railroads, some of which have now been donated to the Heritage Railway Museum in Squamish.

Bob loved to play golf, and was co-founder of a golf course on a sheep farm in Lillooet BC that is still operating today. He was a long-time member, along with Shirley, of the Squamish Drama club, where he participated by building sets and acting in many productions.

Bob's passion was his 1936 Ford Coupe with rumble seat which he completely rebuilt during his retirement years.

Bob is predeceased by his wife Shirley, son-in-law Brian, daughter-in-law Kelly, and survived by his loving partner Beverly, and by his children Joanne/Daryl, Marty/Gloria, Murray/Terrie, Lindsay and David/Tish, grandchildren Morgan/Sarah, Courtney/Chris, Jestin/Bonnie, Ryleigh/Travis, Janna, Kyal/Jessica, Meagan/Russ, Amanda/April and Lincoln, and great-grandchildren Hailey, Emily, Micah, Carter, Brynn, Ella, Sawyer, Calli, Savannah, Charlee and Olivia.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bob when we can once again gather in numbers. In lieu of flowers, we ask for your help in supporting the Alzheimer's Society.
