Obituary for Peter Bert Cunningham

Peter Cunningham 73, passed away peacefully March 10, 2023 after a long, courageous battle with liver disease and diabetes.

He was predeceased by his father Dr. Allister Cunningham, mother Joan, stepmother Lucy Gunn, brothers Alan & George plus Siamese cats Rontu & CC. He was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia January 6, 1950, moved to Vancouver, BC 1972 but lived his last few years in New Westminster, BC.

Peter had a full, active life, enjoying every bit of it! He loved concerts, theatre, movies, travel, socializing & coffee with friends. He had a generous, easy-going & fun-loving nature and will be greatly missed by all ! He worked 42 years as a baker in University of BC Food Services & Catering where he and his team produced over 7.5 million cinnamon buns! Peter was affectionately called the "Godfather of the UBC cinnamon bun".

He is survived by his stepsister Gloria C. , niece Debra M. & nephew David C., all his friends in New Germany, NS plus many cousins in Canada & US and numerous friends everywhere.

Many thanks to the doctors (especially Dr. David Yik), nurses and staff of Royal Columbian Hospital (New West.) & St. Michael's Hospice (Bby) for their great, compassionate care during his last 4 years. Also, he was very grateful for all the help Fred W., his close friend of 50 years, gave him.

His friends will meet March 26th to celebrate his life and a church service will be held in May/June in New Germany, NS.

In Peter's memory, a donation to Royal Columbian Hospital or St. Michael's Hospice or Epworth United Church (New Germany, NS) would be appreciated.

Peter's last wish was: "Until me meet again on the other side, love each other".
