Obituary for Paul Peter Hamlescher

It is with great sadness that we bear this news today…

Paul Peter Hamlescher passed away peacefully in palliative care at Burnaby General Hospital on Wednesday August 23, 2023 at 9:07pm after a long year of illness. He was 85 years old.

Born in Romania, Paul moved to Germany at a young age where he grew up in Stuttgart and received his apprenticeship in commercial painting. He then immigrated to Kelowna, BC Canada at the age of 19 with only a few dollars in his pocket to start a new life.

Soon after he met his wife Irma, married in Kelowna in 1962, and moved to Vancouver where he became a successful businessman, owning and operating his own painting business until his retirement.

In his spare time, he had become a Freemason where he was Past Master of his Lodge three times. He was also committed to his work with the Gizeh Shriners that donated much of their time to the Canadian Cancer Foundation and Children's Hospital.

Paul's love for his family, business and gardening is what stood out the most about him and these things were most prevalent throughout his daily life. He was a simple man with strong values, a love for his craft in Freemasonry and a good glass of wine. We loved him dearly and he will always be in our hearts. We are so lucky to have had him in all our lives.

He is survived by his loving wife Irmgard (Irma) of 61 years of marriage and his loving daughter Simone.

This photo of him is one of the rare ones of him smiling. We will cherish it always.

We love you Dad!
