Obituary for Paul William Bennett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul William Bennett, who was born on December 11, 1960 in Edmonton, AB and passed away on February 12, 2023 in Abbotsford, BC at the age of 62. This sudden loss comes with heavy hearts for those who knew the great man he was.

Paul was predeceased by his father Alan and survived by his mother Elieen and loving family from Scotland, his son Justin and fiancé Alexa, his step son Garret, his brother Michael and wife Rosemarie, his brother Bruce, his niece Sarah, his nephews Matthew, Joel, and Trevor along with 15 of his great nieces and nephews, his love Darlene and her daughter Megan, his friends Sergio, Giordy and many more.

Paul was raised in Port Coquitlam, as a young man he excelled at running, gymnastics and many other school sports. He attended Mary Hill Junior High while working at Langford Cedar Sawmill in New West. He spent his teenage years with his good friends known to be fearless with his crazy adventures in the Mary Hill pits with his green jeep and triumph bike. He brought smiles to so many with his responsible reckless spirit as a teenager. He began his career as a Locomotive Engineer in 1981 at Canadian Pacific Railway in Port Coquitlam where he welcomed his son Justin with Claire in 1982. Paul went on to the Revelstoke mountain subdivision for over 20 years, training many engineers and known for his expertise and diligence. He loved his Revelstoke days with his close friends Giordy and son Tyson, Mark and Ernie where they enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, mechanics and tinkering in his shop with the guys.

Paul moved to Vancouver in 2004 where he met Darlene and her daughter Megan and lived in North Vancouver for many years. Besides his dedicated work on the railway, his handy working skills were used in their home renovations. They enjoyed travel by air, in his boat, his RV and long drives. With Paul, adventure always laid ahead. Paul Retired at the age of 55 after 34 years on the railway and enjoyed his time traveling to many countries with so many great stories. Additionally, he spent his time with Sergio and friends, on his ATV and dirt biking. Paul was very proud of his son Justin, his accomplishments in life and their many adventures together, dirt biking, 4x4 in the jeep and sailing. Paul enjoyed his time with the people he loved. He was never far from and cherished his mother Elieen, visiting her daily at the care home, always ensuring that she was happy, content and had whatever she needed even in her current stage of dementia. His loved ones could always count on him for his integrity, dedication, honesty, humor and support.

Paul was a loving son, brother, father and uncle that was always there for his family and friends. Paul will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. His kind and generous spirit touched the lives of so many, known for his huge heart that would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His legacy will live on through the memories he created with his loved ones. May he rest in peace.
