Obituary for Patrick Earl Haney

Patrick (Pat) Earl Haney, loving brother and friend to many in New Westminster where he resided most of his life, died peacefully on December 23, 2021 at the age of 73. He is survived by his brothers, Ken and Harold (Bud) and sisters Colleen and Cynthia (Cindy).

Pat was born on August 12, 1948 in New Westminster, BC, as the second of five children to Carolin and Kenneth (Bill) Haney. He developed a life-long passion for baseball, beginning as a pitcher in the famed Whalley Little League, and was still playing on a team in recent years.

Pat had a deep love for both music and sports. He was able to share this joy with his family and friends over multiple decades, attending live concerts and sporting events. He also enjoyed golf outings with his father, uncle and brothers. In recent years he was an active and enthusiastic participant in the recreational programs and events involving music at Buchanan Lodge.

He graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School, and completed training as a Psychiatric Nurse, spending many years caring for those with special needs. He developed a strong faith, and went into training as a Salvation Army Officer. Although he did not complete that training, he continued to serve in many capacities through the Salvation Army church in New Westminster.

Pat never hesitated to share a kind word of encouragement, even as he faced his own challenges. His absence will be felt by his family, friends, community at the Salvation Army church, the residents of New Westminster, residents and staff at Buchanan Lodge and more.
