Obituary for Ruth Charles

On April 3, 2024 (Mary) Ruth Charles passed away at the Queen's Park Care Centre in New Westminster at the age of 78. After a long battle with cancer, the Lord has called her home.

Ruth grew up on 24th Avenue in Vancouver. The family sold the house to family friends, the Seaweeds, and bought a farm out in Chilliwack. Ruth later moved back to the city to stay in her old house with the Seaweeds.

With a certificate in practical nursing, Ruth enjoyed working with seniors. She also volunteered many summers at Camp Artaban on Gambier Island. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with her friends from the Ladies Time Out bible study group at the Blue Mountain Baptist Church. Despite her many challenges in life, she will be remembered for her generous spirit, kindness, and sharp wit.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Mary (Peters), her son Dave, her grandson Alex, and her sister Win (Zielinski). She will be dearly missed by her daughter Sandra, daughter-in-law Lara, her grandchildren Travis (Agatha), Corina, Melissa, and Ryan, childhood friend Audrey Parker, Marylke, and so many other friends.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Queen's Park, as well as Helping Hands and Heart, for their care and support.

Interment will be held at the Port Coquitlam cemetery. A tea to celebrate Ruth's life will follow. Call (604) 939-9934 for more details.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue at https://bandagedpaws.org or the Blue Mountain Baptist Chuch in Coquitlam.
