Obituary for Margaret Linn Grant (Fleming)

Margaret Grant, long time resident of Coquitlam and Maple Ridge passed away Dec. 7th 2023 at 102 years of age. She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years Lawrence Grant.

Margaret was born in Jedburgh Scotland Sept. 21st 1921 and moved to Canada as a child, living in Winnipeg initially then on to Vancouver in 1929. She attended Jericho Hill School for the Deaf. In her spare time she enjoyed swimming at the nearby beaches, learning to knit with the help of her grandmother and sketching her favorite movie stars. Her cat, Boots, also kept her entertained. After school she remained very involved with the local deaf community. Through the community she met and married Lawrence.

They built a home in Coquitlam where they lived for over 30 years, raising their 3 children and assorted dogs and cats. They remained very involved with the Vancouver Association of the Deaf and also made many friends in in their own neighbourhood. She was kind and generous with her time and talents. As her children got older she was able to devote more time to her hobbies, always interested in trying new crafts. They joined the Lutheran Church for the deaf during that time and this also became a very large and important part of their life.

Mom was much loved by her family. She was generous and kind and always wanted to help if there was someone in need. She had a wonderful sense of humour, often making fun of herself which endeared her to all.

She is survived by her children Bruce (Marylene), Janice (Bruce) and Arlene (Darrell). Five grandchildren Adrianne, Carla, Kyle, Robert and David. Four great grandchildren Tea, Max, Cadence and little May Margaret born the day after her passing.

May our dear mom rest in the peace of Christ
