Obituary for Joy Parker (Arnold)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joy Parker on January 5, 2024, in Burnaby, BC at 91 years of age. Born in Vancouver, BC and survived by her sister Glenda, Joy married Robert John James (Jim) Parker (Nov 15, 1930 – October 27, 2008) in 1954 and they soon after started a family, making their home in Burnaby, BC.

Joy was an amazing mother/grandmother/great grandmother and lived a life dedicated to her family. She is survived by her six children: Brad (Sheryl), Susan (Dave), Karen (Perry), Jo-Ann (Steve), Jeff (Bev), Bobbi and Iris, ex-daughter-in-law (Chuck). Joy was a cherished grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Jennie (Bob), Jason (Caitlin), Maria (Gord), Tressa, Jared (Mandy), Matthew, Tracy (Kevan), Nick (Darian), Gord (Ginelle), Tom, Jamie (Sean), James, Lauren (Ben), step grandchild Cassie (Esiah) and to eleven great grandchildren: Linden, Cohen, Griffin, Grady, Devon, Annabelle, Zadie, Parker, Cameron, Bowen, Gus, three step great grandchildren Maya, Ashlyn, and Lily.

Joy was an avid sports fan with a lifelong passion for the Vancouver Canucks. Her love and respect for the ocean, animals, and gardening compelled her and Jim to pursue their dream of owning a hobby farm in Comox on Vancouver Island in retirement. This farm was the cornerstone of countless reunions and get-togethers where family would gather, unite, and make memories that continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all those who were there.

Joy and Jim were each other’s best friend, and their marriage was one of enduring commitment, always demonstrating an active care and concern for each other and their children. They leave behind a legacy of love and strong family values that extend to all their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a memorial contribution in Joy’s memory to the BC SPCA.

A celebration of her life is being planned in the Summer of 2024; details will be sent out when confirmed.
