Obituary for John Peter Groot
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved John (John Boy) on November 29, 2023 in Coquitlam, BC, at the age of 59, with family by his side.
John was born on December 11, 1963, in Edmonton, Alberta to Adrian & Tina Groot. John was predeceased by his Mom, Tina & his fur-buddy Jasper. John will be forever missed by his Dad: Adrian; his beloved & devoted wife of 33 years, Marla, their son: Dean (Cianna), their grandchildren: Brooks & London; and his fur-baby Roscoe, his sisters: Joanne (Daryl), Wendy (Gary), Caroline (David) and Trish (Fred), in-laws Joe & Bette, Marla’s siblings Micheal & Laura, 15 nieces/nephews, extended family & friends that all meant so much to him.
John was a gentle & kind hearted soul who had a great sense of humor and a smile that was infectious. Those that met and knew John all say that he left a legacy of love of life and positivity. John demonstrated great strength throughout his battle with MSA over the past 18 months. We rely on these unspoken lessons on how to handle adversity as we say goodbye to him. He will be deeply and forever missed.
The family wishes to express our immense gratitude to Dr. Jason Valerio and Dr. Pegah Miri for their care and commitment in getting a diagnosis. We would also like to thank the nurses & staff at Eagle Ridge Manor, for their compassionate care of John in his final months.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation in John’s memory to the MSA Coalition, Parkinson Canada or to the Alzheimer’s Society.
