Obituary for Gerry Wong

It is with deep sadness we announce that Gerry passed peacefully after courageously fighting a 7-month battle against pancreatic cancer. Predeceased by his parents Wally and Della, brother Gordy, sister Gladys, nephew Eric and in-laws George and Mae Eng. Gerry is survived by his loving family; wife Merilee, daughter Lisa (Jay), son Andrew (Kelly), grandchildren Sarah (Jason), Holli, Ashley, Hunter, Ryan and great-grandchildren Jaxon, Kenzie, Ava and Cruz. He leaves behind brother Gilby (Pauline), sisters-in-law Eleanor, Bev (Bud), Georgia (Ron) and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry will fondly be remembered by his wonderful group of friends, his East Van pals, the Alpha Family, VGC golfing buddies and numerous friends and acquaintances in the BC Construction Industry.

Gerry was street smart and a real character while proudly growing up in East Vancouver. He obtained his plumbing ticket and established Alpha Mechanical Ltd. in 1974. He lived by his motto "Work hard, play hard" and he greatly succeeded at both. He passed this down to his children and Alpha Mechanical became a family business still operating successfully today.

Gerry always did things on his time, his way and never looked back. He lived life to the fullest and his impact on his family, business and friends will be dearly missed. Thank you to the staff at Laurel Place Hospice and the Doctors and nurses at Royal Columbian Hospital (6 South).

At Gerry's request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date after all COVID restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Royal Columbian Hospital or Laurel Place Hospice.
