Obituary for Elmer Dale Neufeld

Surrounded in love and family, Elmer Neufeld passed away peacefully on March 13th, 2023.

Elmer is survived by his children Sandy (Ken) King, Steve (Mary) Neufeld, Bonny Anderson, Fay (Darryl) Sherstebetoff, and Val (Gord) Addison. Elmer is preceded in death by his second wife, Muriel Neufeld, his parents John and Anne Neufeld, his siblings John, Edna, Albert, Peter, Anne, Walter, and Otto, and his son-in-law Ed.

Born March 27th, 1927, Elmer grew up part of a large family in small homesteading towns of the Canadian prairies. He knew the value of earning a good life through hard work, the support of good friends and family, and of faith. Elmer married Mary Neufeld in 1947, with whom he was blessed with 5 children, 8 grandchildren and a growing generation of great-grandchildren, before parting ways with Mary in 1994. A licensed mechanic, Elmer worked for Canadian Tire before enjoying his retirement.

During his near 96 years, Elmer had a passion for living, which included extensive travelling. It was on a 1994 Florida cruise that he married his partner in many joys and interests, Muriel Neufeld (nee Wheeler). Together they enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, and above all, the company of his extensive family.

Friends and loved ones are encouraged to share condolences and memories. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date, and information will be updated on the same site.

Beyond Life’s Gateway
There is an open gate
At the end of the road
Through which
Each must go alone.
And there is a light
we cannot see
Our Father claims his own.
Beyond the gate your loved one
Finds happiness and rest
And there is comfort
In the thought
That loving God knows best.
