It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Campbell Taylor after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his sons (Nathan and Adam), daughter in-laws (Christie and Melissa) and grandchildren (Hailey and Alex). He is pre-deceased by his Mother (Ruth), Father (Leonard), brother (Lenny), brother (Chris), sister (Deborah) and his survived by his sister (Lois). The family takes comfort knowing that Doug passed away peacefully and is now reunited with Colleen, his wife of 35 years, who was pre-deceased in 2016.
Born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario, Doug found his way to the west coast, ultimately settling in Courtenay on Vancouver Island where he met his wife and raised his two children. He later moved to Port Coquitlam to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Doug will be remembered as a devoted husband and a wonderful father who was caring, selfless and would do anything for his family. His sons remember how he would spend his weekends driving them (sometimes separately) up and down the island to their sporting events, how he would forgo buying things for himself to ensure his kids had what they needed, and the fact that he never missed a game! Simply put, he was always there for them. Doug exemplified what it truly meant to be a father and his sons are forever grateful. Outside of family, those who knew him would say he was a kind and charismatic man who could light up the room with his friendliness and quick wit. He had an amazing ability to jump right in and make an instant connection with anyone around him. Doug made many friends in Courtenay and more recently in Port Coquitlam and will be missed by all of them. He was a loyal Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Blue Jays fan, a supporter of youth sports, and in his later years, he took an interest in carpet bowling and become a community advocate for seniors.
In his final days, Doug recounted that some of his fondest memories were watching his children play sports and the enjoyment he got from the many trips he took to Mexico with his wife.
A private event will be held by the family to celebrate Doug’s life and to honor his wishes to have his ashes spread in a lake alongside his wife.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Eagle Ridge Hospital and the entire team at Crossroads Hospice for their incredible care and compassion during Doug’s final days. Please consider making a donation to the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation or the Crossroads Hospice Society in Doug’s name.
“Treasured in our hearts you’ll stay until we meet again someday.”
