Obituary for Patrick K "Pat" Scoles

Pat passed away at age 83 at Surrey Memorial Hospital, BC, following the effects of a stroke 8 years ago, and, more recently, pneumonia,

Pat was born in Treherne, MB, grew up in the Altamont/St. Lupicin area on the Scoles Family Farm and, after finishing school in Altamont, went to Winnipeg where he worked for CN Telegraph, CMHC, and John Deere Plow Co. He always had a second job, working evenings and weekends for Salisbury House Restaurants and the Town and Country Restaurant. In 1957, he moved to Vancouver to work for Finning Tractor. Later he started his own restaurant on Commercial Drive, and took a refrigeration course. After graduation, he started P K Refrigeration which he operated for 40 years.

Pat is survived by his two sons: Paul of Vancouver, and Philip of Victoria, and his three brothers: Joe (Ottawa), Jack (Vancouver), and Ted (Winnipeg), and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife Joan, his father Mike (1981) and mother Mary (2007).

Pat had many interest,s including politics. In 1954, he was chosen as Manitoba delegate to the Young Liberals National Convention in Ottawa. Another long-time interest was gold panning. He won several medals for First Place Finishes in the Yukon Gold Panning Championships at Klondike Days in Dawson City, an event he attended for many years.

Cremation has taken place and, at Pat’s request, there will be no service.
